Collection: Pearl Jewelry
Mikuhoshi is deeply captivated by the gentle luster of pearls and the colors revealed through their nacre layers (interference colors). Different types of pearls vary in color, size, and growth patterns. Born of nature, no two pearls are exactly alike; coming across one is a matter of fate.
Pearls are formed by mollusks such as pearl oysters and mussels. When foreign matter—such as a grain of sand, a parasite, or a piece of tissue—enters the mollusk, the mantle is stimulated and secretes nacre, layer upon layer enveloping the foreign object. Over time, gathering the essence of the sea, a pearl is finally formed. Natural pearls are extremely rare; most pearls on the market today are cultured pearls, produced by artificially implanting a nucleus or mantle tissue on farms, allowing the mollusk to secrete nacre and cultivate the pearl. Although cultured, they are still naturally secreted and nurtured by the mollusk, making each one unique. Japan is an important producer of seawater pearls, known for Akoya pearls with their lustrous white bodies and mirror-like luster. Our pearls are sourced from Japan, and we hope to bring this delicate luster and unique beauty born of nature to every customer.
